Silly Nice and the METRC Rollout: What’s Really Going On in New York
If you’ve been trying to get your hands on Silly Nice lately and can’t find us at your go-to dispensary — we hear you.
Trust us, we’re just as frustrated.
Here’s what’s really going on.
We Didn’t Disappear — The System Broke
New York is rolling out a new cannabis tracking system called METRC. It’s supposed to help the state track products from seed to sale, but the way it’s being rolled out is honestly a mess.
Because of how the rules are being enforced right now, a ton of legal cannabis brands — including us — are stuck. We’ve got product ready to go, dispensaries that want to order, and customers asking for restocks… but the system won’t let anything move.
The Problem? Tags. Lots of Them.
Every single product — even one jar of concentrate or a pre-roll — needs a special tracking tag under METRC. Sounds simple, but it’s not.
Those tags cost money. A lot of money. And for small craft brands like us that focus on concentrates and infused flower, each batch ends up needing a massive number of tags — just to stay compliant.
This eats into our margins and slows everything down. Even worse, the state isn’t giving everyone the same deadline, so dispensaries and processors (like us) are out of sync. That means some shops can’t accept the product, and we can’t legally deliver it to them.
Dispensaries Are Pausing Orders
The truth is, dispensaries are scared to stock products while this mess is still unfolding.
They don’t want to accidentally get inventory they can’t scan or sell. So even the ones who usually carry Silly Nice are putting things on hold — not because they don’t want our products, but because they don’t want to get caught in the middle of a broken rollout.
“Our sales have dropped by over 50% — not because customers don’t want the product, but because stores are afraid to order right now.”
— LeVar Thomas, Co-Founder of Silly Nice
You Deserve to Know What’s Up
We built this brand with full transparency. So here it is: this rollout is crushing small businesses. It’s happening during the holidays — the busiest time of year — and it’s forcing us to cancel or delay drops we’ve been working on for months.
We’re doing everything we can to stay stocked. We’re still producing. Still testing. Still packaging. Still ready to deliver. But until the system works the way it’s supposed to, you might see fewer Silly Nice products in stores than usual.
It’s temporary — but yeah, it’s real.
Want to Help?
We’re not asking for sympathy. Just support.
Here’s what you can do if you love what we make and want to help keep us going:
Ask your favorite dispensary to bring us back in. Many of them want to — they just need to know their customers are asking for Silly Nice.
Spread the word. Let your friends know why things are slow right now. It’s not just us — it’s happening to a lot of the smaller, craft cannabis brands.
Stay connected. Follow us on socials and check our menu to see what’s available and where.
And if you’re curious about what the industry is doing to fix this, here’s a petition started by one of our processing partners. It breaks down the problems and calls for urgent changes to keep brands like ours alive and growing.
We’re Not Going Anywhere
We’ve been through a lot to get here — and we’re not stopping now.
We’ll be back in more stores soon. We’ve got fresh drops coming as soon as the logjam clears. We’re not cutting corners, and we’re not going to compromise the quality you expect from Silly Nice.
We just wanted to be real with you. If it’s harder to find us right now, it’s not because we slowed down — it’s because the system did.
Thank you for riding with us.
